Job Position: Sustainable Enterprise Coordinator

Salary Range: $46,000-$54,000

Future Generations University is seeking an energetic entrepreneurial-minded person to join its Appalachian Team to serve as Sustainable Enterprise Coordinator. This position is a partially remote—with additional regional travel—full-time salaried position working to support, coach, and mentor small business owners and farmers across Appalachia. The Sustainable Enterprise Coordinator will work alongside a dedicated team of professionals in West Virginia and greater Appalachia to promote the region through the development of Agroforestry, tree syrup production, and Agritourism enterprises.

Specific Duties will include:

  • Continual Management/Updating/Development of resource toolkits for Natural Resource Management, Enterprise Development, and Financial Planning.
  • Partnering on research in best business/financial management practices for new or underdeveloped forest products and services, nontraditional landowner management tools including carbon credits and integration of tree and row crops, and market development assistance for nascent agroforestry products and services
  • Serve as Business Coach to syrup producers and forest farmers in Central Appalachian region as needed
  • Coach businesses owners and communities to connect for special projects, events, etc.
  • Coordinate and provide/host online training programs and in-person workshops on Natural Resource Management and Enterprise development in Agroforestry & Agritourism.
  • Support the creation of individual and joint industry related marketing plans/initiatives
  • Training and Resource support to regional Food Cooperatives, Farmers Markets, Agricultural Service Providers, Economic Development Authorities, and Convention & Visitor Bureaus
  • Assist Project Team with Grant writing and Grant reporting.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong grasp on social media and online sales platforms
  • Marketing and Branding experience with products and enterprises
  • Entrepreneurial mindset
  • Financial literacy and strong command of Excel/bookkeeping software
  • Knowledge of state and federal tax law in VA, MD, and WV
  • Five or more years of experience starting and/or operating food/tourism/service industry business
  • Willingness to travel and work evenings/weekends when needed
  • Basic familiarity with typical business models (sole proprietorship, LLC, cooperative, etc.) and common obstacles of agriculture (seasonality, diversification, crop failure, production planning)
