Spring Semester Course

PSK 619 - Fundraising and Resource Development

All nonprofit organizations require resources to successfully execute their mission. In a time of decreased external funding, increased expectations of accountability on the part of nonprofits, and an economic downturn that has negatively affected individual donors and funding entities, nonprofit organizations and charities must work harder to raise the funds needed. Securing financial support requires a clearly articulated case, a well-developed plan to communicate that case to identified prospects, and the ability to implement effective solicitation strategies.

In this course you will:
  • Develop a nonprofit fundraising plan to outline methods to use (annual giving, major gifts, grants, crowdfunding, community fundraiser, etc.)
  • Conduct prospect research by identifying an individual or other funder and creating a prospect brief that pulls together information about the donor and the best ask
  • Build a case for support by creating a document that outlines the organization’s mission, programs, and why others should donate to the organization
  • Draft a grant application to formally request funds for your organization or project
