PSK 618 - Leadership in Community Building

What does it take to help others succeed and to build community? Drawing on key concepts from SEED-SCALE and community development, this course will help you develop the skills to thrive as a leader. You will gain understanding of foundational concepts of leadership while honing your leadership style and delving into the psychology of followership. You will leave this course able to actively build community and mobilize change.

In this course you will:

 

  • Identify a variety of personnel leadership styles and apply them as needed in community contexts
  • Lead change from anywhere within a community or organization 
  • Nurture productive followership to build a stronger community
  • Master leadership strategy, allowing you to incorporate human and financial resources to community development in line with the SEED-SCALE methodology

The goal is to empower students to achieve peak performance as leaders, communicators and agents of change.

Dr. Ericka Harney, CAE, CFRE, GPC, CVA joined Future Generations to teach Nonprofit Management as part of her extensive career in the nonprofit sector. She earned her Ph.D. in Nonprofit Organizational Leadership for Eastern University while serving as a consultant and an Executive Director. Ericka has been faculty for several graduate and undergraduate programs in fundraising and communications and has been responsible for successful fundraising and grant awards of over $32 million..
