Spring Semester Course
PSK 602 -Community Resource Mapping

Join our global classroom to learn spatial reasoning and mapping skills. With these tools you will be equipped to better understand your community and support evidence-based decision making. The communities where we live and work are complex. Spatial thinking allows us to see patterns and relationships, and organize ideas. Mapping skills can help document and disseminate powerful stories for change, and are transferable to many aspects of community development. Spatial data is increasingly available and accessible. When we use data, we have a responsibility to understand the complexities of data collection and use. This course will introduce you to spatial data from a wide variety of data sources, and will include discussions of data ethics, cultural considerations, and data quality.
- Interact with other community development practitioners around the world and learn from their stories of place and change.
- Develop your ability to think spatially and apply that thinking to your community.
- Use ESRI ArcGIS Online, a standard in professional mapping software, to explore, collect, analyze, and share spatial data related to your work in communities.
- Create a StoryMap to increase the impact of your community development work.
