Our Story
Future Generations Himalaya (FGH) is a service-oriented, public-welfare organization based in Lalitpur, Nepal. It is registered under the Company Act of Nepal and affiliated with the Social Welfare Council, operating as a profit-making but non-distributing company. FGH is also a chartered organization of Future Generations University in West Virginia, USA, committed to promoting inclusive and sustainable community change through research, learning, and action. As a service-oriented entity, FGH prioritizes the well-being of the communities it serves, working toward a future where both communities and nature can achieve greater self-sufficiency, resilience, and social harmony.

Objectives
- Increase Agricultural Production: Enhance agricultural output, foster job creation through agriculture-based industries, and enhance farmers’ skills in modern farming techniques.
- Promote Healthy Behavior: Raise awareness on public health issues through programs focused on maternal health, nutrition, and safe motherhood, using the “Sharing Histories” approach.
- Foster Environmental Sustainability: Conduct research on climate change and biodiversity through the “Success Mapping” approach, implement environmental protection, wildlife conservation, and agroforestry programs, and raise awareness on disaster risks and ecological security.
- Create Employment Opportunities: Provide vocational education and entrepreneurship programs for youth, combat human trafficking and unsafe migration, and strengthen community groups to promote sustainable income generation and socioeconomic development through the “SEED-SCALE” approach.
- Collaborate for Learning: Partner with national and international organizations and universities to develop and implement programs, as well as establish learning centers.
- Achieve Business Sustainability: Generate sustainable profits, create community value, expand market reach, and ensure customer satisfaction, while improving operational efficiency, fostering innovation, balancing profitability with social responsibility, and prioritizing long-term growth and strategic partnerships.

Our Projects & Success Stories
Empowering Women and the Environment through Biogas Adoption
Thira Devi Dagaura from Bhajani-07, Kailali, transitioned from traditional energy sources such as firewood and cow dung to biogas. Influenced by neighbors and community forest group discussions, she implemented biogas to tackle the health and environmental challenges. Hira adopted the new energy technology with support from a biogas company. This transition drastically improved her family’s health, reduced cooking time, and minimized deforestation. Importantly, it freed her from the physical and emotional burdens of firewood collection, enabling more time for farming and income generation. Hira now advocates for climate-friendly alternatives like biogas, LPG, and solar energy, urging communities to prioritize clean energy for better health, safety, and environmental protection.
Building Climate-Resilient Houses with Traditional Wisdom
Rajmati Chaudhari, a farmer in Bhajani-7, Kailali, has lived in her traditional mud and wood house for over 21 years. Like many in her flood-prone village, she has faced significant challenges due to climate change, intense rainfall, and frequent flooding, which have damaged her house, spoiled stored food, and threatened her family’s health and safety. To adapt, Rajmati elevated the foundation of her house using local materials such as mud, straw, bamboo, and wood, merging age-old techniques with modern awareness. She received support from the community forest and her local ward office guidance. These changes have led to remarkable improvements: her house now withstands flooding. Rajmati advises others in vulnerable areas to raise house foundations and combine traditional materials with modern construction methods for increased climate resilience.
Adapting to Climate Change through Greenhouse Farming at High Altitude
Karma Phunjok Gurung, a teacher from Vijer-5 (Altitued at 3700m) in Shey Phoksundo Rural Municipality, adapted to climate change by introducing greenhouse farming in his high-altitude village, where growing vegetables was once deemed impossible due to extreme cold and snowfall. Noticing rising temperatures and changing weather patterns, he learned techniques to grow fresh, organic vegetables through a website. Despite facing challenges like wind damage to his nursery, he succeeded in growing vegetables for personal consumption, inspired others in the community to begin vegetable farming, and brought greenery to the area.
